Marikit Santiago, born in Melbourne in 1985, is a visual artist based in Sydney and a current tenant at the Parramatta Artists Studios. She lives and works in Sydney where her practice investigates a personal conflict of cultural plurality at the conjunction of Filipino ethnicity and Australian nationality. Her work reflects the interweaving cultures of her ethnic identity, representing both acceptance and rejection simultaneously.
In 2007, she completed a Bachelor of Medical Science before pursuing an art career in earnest. She received the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence at the completion of Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours Class I), and in 2013 received the Australian Postgraduate Award for her candidature in Masters of Fine Art at UNSW Art & Design (formerly COFA).
In 2016, she was selected as finalist for the Archibald Prize. Also, she did lots of group exhibitions, and one solo exhibition in 2015 ; Altar Ego, AirSpace Projects, in Marrickville.
