Think of Sydney’s vast and varied population, and you initially think of the cultural groups that have made this city their home. The Greek community, the Italian community, the Vietnamese. The Filipino community, by and large, barely get a look in.

First-time playwrights Rosary Coloma and Erica Enriquez have collaborated to developed a unique production for the 2011 Sydney Fringe Festival, called Aussies of the Magic Mic and Adobo Kind. This piece of contemporary theatre is a series of candid vignettes portraying the many layers of being Filipino-Australian, whether they are first or second generation or recent arrivals. The idea was born from the writers’ amusing and poignant observations of life in Australia as a person of Filipino heritage. Filipino-Australian actor FELINO DOLLOSO wrapping up on his next feature film “Chains”. Filming finishes December 2010. A feature film project “CHAINS” – tells the story of those chains that link us & sometimes bind us, for good or for ill. Feature film project produced by Amin Palangi & Billy Marshall Stoneking.
Told through seven, inter-linked stories, the film dramatises a sampling of some of the cultural and generational challenges… and conflicts that confront the multi-cultural community that is Sydney’s western suburbs.

Her Son, Jose Rizal

“Her Son, Jose Rizal” is a brilliant theatre piece on the Philippines’ national hero, Dr Jose Rizal, during Spain’s colonization of the Philippines in the 18th century. This one-act play is a recollection of Jose’s childhood days and some of those precious moments with his mother, Dona Teodora and siblings Soledad and Paciano, while in prison writing his last poem (“Mi Ultimo Adios”) and awaiting execution for conspiracy, sedition and rebellion in Bagumbayan, Manila.
